Our Commitment to Alzheimer's CareOur Alzheimer's Committment

The staff at the Lutheran Home of Southbury (LHS) has earned a reputation for providing exceptional care and individualized attention to the needs of each of its 120 residents. In response to the increasing number of residents who develop a cognitive disorder such as Alzheimer's disease, the Lutheran Home, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut, developed the state’s first staff certification program in dementia care for nursing homes.

Since then, the Lutheran Home has continued to certify its staff in dementia care annually. Through this process and through additional continuing education, all staff are routinely trained to create an atmosphere of warmth, peace, and purposeful activity. Expert caregivers are also trained to support concerned family members, offering them information on changes in behaviors/ symptoms, as well as methods to help communicate with their loved ones.
